A customer may call any carbon piece on a mirror a “mirror cap.” For the workshop ordering it, an adhesive overlay and a replacement outer shell are different products with different preparation and installation questions.
When sourcing G87 M2 carbon fiber mirror caps, establish whether the proposed item covers the existing shell or replaces it, then match the exact mirror assembly and left/right configuration. A photograph of the visible carbon face is not enough to make that decision.

Concept illustration.
Identify the product type first
An overlay is intended to fit over an existing component. A replacement cap takes the place of a specified outer component. Those descriptions do not tell you the complete attachment procedure, material thickness or compatibility of an unidentified product.
Ask the seller to show the rear of the supplied item and describe which original component remains on the car. If the offer is for a complete mirror assembly rather than a cap, the scope changes substantially. Do not assume mirror glass, electronics, motors or other assemblies are included with a shell.
Compare the buying questions
| Question | Overlay | Replacement shell |
|---|---|---|
| What stays on the car? | Identify the surface being covered | Identify the component being removed |
| What interface matters? | Contact shape and edge coverage | Clips, tabs and mating edges |
| What instructions are needed? | Approved preparation and attachment method | Product-specific removal and refitting method |
| What must the quote state? | Piece count and supplied attachment materials | Shell count and included/reused items |
| What should be photographed? | Existing cap from several angles | Assembly shape and relevant interfaces |
Use the table to collect information, not to infer a procedure. Adhesives, clip handling and any disassembly must follow the selected product's confirmed instructions.
Do not transfer another BMW's confirmation
A shared brand, familiar mirror shape or similar style name is not proof that the product is correct for the customer's G87. Supply the model, production information where available, market and photographs of the actual mirrors, including any previous modifications.
The G80/G82 mirror-cap guide is useful for understanding version checks, but its vehicle-specific discussion does not qualify a G87 product. Ask whether the quoted cap has a distinct left-hand-drive or right-hand-drive version where relevant to its application.
Check the pair before quoting the installation
Confirm whether the price is for one side or a pair and whether the left and right pieces share the requested finish. Ask for both rear views, rather than assuming a single photographed cap represents both supplied parts.
When appearance is being matched to an existing carbon package, compare the selected pieces under similar lighting. Do not promise an exact match from separate screen images. Link the mirror-cap order to the rest of the G87 package specification so the customer approves one coherent scope.

Suggested buyer workflow. Follow the product-specific specification and agreed order terms where applicable.
A quote-ready mirror-cap request
Use this short request when the buyer has not yet identified the product type. It prevents a replacement shell and an overlay being priced as equivalent.
| Record | Example or required entry |
|---|---|
| Vehicle and existing assembly | G87 M2; add actual production information, market and clear mirror photographs. |
| Required format | State overlay or replacement. If unknown, ask the supplier to identify the proposed format from front and reverse views. |
| Supply scope | Ask whether the quoted unit is a left/right pair and request the included attachment items. |
| Release condition | Approve only after the quote identifies the product reference and relevant mirror configuration. |
Copy: “Please quote the version shown in the attached reference. Confirm whether the original outer shell stays in place, what is supplied for each side and which application information remains outstanding.” The current material inventory does not establish a verified G87 mirror variant, so this guide does not publish an unverified version matrix.
Questions buyers ask
Is a replacement cap automatically the better choice? Choose around the customer's goal, the actual product and the documented installation requirements. Product type alone does not establish quality or suitability.
Does “carbon mirror” mean the complete mirror is supplied? No. The quotation must identify whether it supplies an overlay, outer shell or assembly and list what is included.
Does this guide confirm a currently available G87 SKU? No. It provides the selection method; availability and compatibility need an answer for the specific product proposed.

Confirm the cap before booking the car
Send CCF photographs of the customer's mirrors and the desired product reference. Ask for product type, rear-interface images, sales unit and the available installation information. A clear answer now is more useful than discovering the wrong attachment system at the workbench.
