A useful carbon fiber aftercare guide tells the customer what finish they received, which instructions apply and what to do when something changes. It should be short enough to use at handover and specific enough to avoid guesswork. For a tuning shop, that is more useful than a generic list of cleaning products copied from another vehicle.

Build the guide around the installed product
Start with the product reference, installation date and finish. Note any protective film or surface treatment added by your shop or another business. Keep the part supplier’s instructions and the treatment provider’s instructions together; do not assume a recommendation for one surface applies to all layers.
For a kit, identify components separately when their care requirements differ. A matte piece, a gloss piece and a filmed surface should not receive one undifferentiated cleaning instruction simply because they are on the same car.
Use a one-page handover card
| Field | What your shop should enter |
|---|---|
| Product and finish | Reference, part location, gloss/matte or confirmed treatment |
| Installation record | Date, workshop and applicable installation document |
| Initial restrictions | Any driving, washing or exposure restrictions specified for the actual installation |
| Routine care | Approved products and methods, with document or provider reference |
| What to watch for | New movement, lifted edges, damage or unexpected finish changes |
| Who to contact | Your shop contact and the information needed for assessment |
Leave a field marked “pending confirmation” during preparation, but resolve it before issuing the final card. A blank space invites the customer to fill the gap with advice from an unrelated product.
Separate initial installation restrictions from regular cleaning
An attachment system may have conditions that apply immediately after fitting. A film installation may have its own initial care requirements. Obtain those from the documents for the products used, rather than printing a universal number of hours on every handover card.
Regular care is a different section. State which instructions govern cleaning and which treatments require prior review. Avoid promising that any household cleaner, abrasive polish or pressure-washing technique is suitable for the customer’s finish.
Teach customers what to report
Ask the customer to contact the shop if an attachment becomes loose, a previously seated edge lifts or a new crack appears. A cosmetic concern and an attachment concern should not follow the same casual “try polishing it” response. The shop should assess the nature of the problem before recommending further use or work.
For a finish concern, request an overall photo, a close-up and the date it was first noticed. Ask about recent cleaning or surface treatments without blaming the customer in advance. Good records improve the review; they do not predetermine whether a claim is covered.
Use plain customer language
Replace vague instructions such as “maintain properly” with the actual approved method or a clear reference. Explain where the part is fitted, what finish it has and whom to call. The handover card should not require a customer to understand resin chemistry to avoid making an unsupported choice.
Here is a reusable introduction: “Your installed part is [reference] with [finish/treatment]. Follow the attached instructions for this product. Before adding a new coating, film or polish, contact [shop] so we can check compatibility.” This is a template, not a completed instruction for every carbon part.
Keep aftercare and warranty distinct
A care card helps a customer use the product appropriately. It should not quietly invent warranty terms or remove obligations by saying that every later problem is caused by cleaning. Link to the applicable written support terms and state how to report an issue.
When your shop offers an additional service, describe that service separately. For example, a planned visual check by the installer is not the same thing as a supplier’s product warranty. Avoid calling a routine visit a mandatory warranty condition unless that requirement actually exists.
Make the card easy to retrieve
- Save it against the job or invoice reference.
- Provide a copy the customer can keep, digitally or on paper.
- Store the instruction versions used at the time of handover.
- Update your template when a product or treatment changes.
For future purchases, request the selected part’s available care and finish information alongside the quote. Preparing that information before the customer collects the car reduces last-minute uncertainty.
Copy this short customer care card
Use this record as a buyer working tool. Examples and sample labels below are illustrative, not CCF inspection, order or test records.
| Record | Example or required entry |
|---|---|
| Your part | Product reference: ____ / finish: ____ / fitted by: ____ / handover date: ____. |
| Care instructions | Use the attached applicable care guidance; record the document reference here: ____. |
| If something changes | Stop corrective treatment, photograph the whole part and affected area, and contact: ____. |
| Additional treatment | Film/coating applied: ____ / provider: ____ / separate care instructions: ____. |
Complete the blanks with verified job information. This card points the owner to the correct instructions without inventing a universal chemical, polishing or repair procedure.

Buyer questions
Can I use one guide for all carbon parts?
Use one layout, but fill it with instructions applicable to the actual finish, attachment system and any added treatment.
Should I include a cleaning brand?
Only when the recommendation is supported for that surface. A brand name alone does not identify the right formulation or method.
Should the customer receive installation instructions too?
Provide the relevant handover and care information. Keep the technical installation record available for qualified assessment when needed.
